DUE TO POPULAR DEMAND
BODIES REVEALED EXTENDS LEXINGTON STAY
AT THE LEXINGTON CENTER MUSEUM & GALLERY
Exhibition extended to January 29

* * *

Due to overwhelming public response, BODIES REVEALED, the blockbuster exhibition featuring real human specimens, is extending its stay in Lexington, KY. With thousands passing through its doors since opening in the Lexington Center Museum & Gallery, BODIES will continue to give the public an educational, captivating and fascinating experience through January 29.

"The Bodies Revealed is an exciting and culturally significant exhibit that helped to successfully launch the new Lexington Center Museum and Gallery and continues to draw large crowds," said CEO and President Bill Owen. "We are looking forward to bringing to Lexington more national touring exhibits of this high quality in the future," he continued.

In a relatively short time, BODIES REVEALED has greatly impacted Lexington and has become a leading cultural and educational attraction. Diversified audiences of adults, teens, children and seniors have experienced the Exhibition, including a wide array of organized groups attesting to the Exhibition's universal appeal. Educators have hailed BODIES as an unprecedented tool to learn about the human body in a direct way that makes anatomy, biology, general science and health real, often for the first time.

"We are thrilled to offer the public an extended chance to learn about their health like never before," said Dr. Roy Glover, Professor Emeritus of Anatomy and Cell Biology at the University of Michigan and Chief Medical Director for the Exhibition, a medical educator with more than 30 years of experience. "This is an exciting opportunity for those who have not yet seen the exhibition and for those who want to come back to BODIES to continue the journey of a lifetime."

With the Exhibition extending its stay, visitors can enjoy more opportunities to travel through the skeletal, muscular, reproductive, respiratory, and circulatory systems of the human body. Upon entering the Exhibition, visitors find whole-body specimens, organs and partial body specimens that present the opportunity to see one's own body in a mesmerizing way. In addition to providing an up-close look inside, the exhibit encourages healthy lifestyle choices by serving as a wake-up call that demonstrates how our own choices directly affect our health.

The exhibition features dissected cross section of the full human body. The Exhibition also features a healthy lung and a black lung ravaged by smoking side by side in a vivid comparison that is undeniable – and more powerful than any textbook image. In addition to providing an unsurpassed look inside our skeletal, muscular, respiratory, and circulatory systems, the exhibition encourages healthy lifestyle choices by serving as a wake-up call that demonstrates how our own choices directly affect our health.

The human body specimens in the exhibition are preserved through a revolutionary technique called polymer preservation. In this process, human tissue is permanently preserved using liquid silicone rubber that is treated and hardened. The end result is a rubberized specimen, preserved to the cellular level, showcasing the complexity of the body's many bones, muscles, nerves, blood vessels, and organs. The full-body specimens can take over a year to prepare and after undergoing the polymer preservation process, they become impervious to decomposition.

Tickets for BODIES REVEALED are available at the door, in advance at (859) 233-3535 or by visiting www.Ticketmaster.com. The Exhibition is open Monday – Sunday – Thursday: 11:00 a.m. – 8 p.m. and Friday & Saturday: 10:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m.

NEW MUSEUM & GALLERY TO OPEN AT LEXINGTON CENTER
BODIES REVEALED, A FASCINATING TRAVELING EXHIBITION
TO LAUNCH NEW SPACE

- Exhibition Opens September 10, 2011 and will be on display for 4 months -

A new exhibition space, The Museum & Gallery at Lexington Center, will open in September of 2011, it was announced today by CEO and President Bill Owen, at the Lexington Center's monthly board meeting. The space, formerly occupied by the UK Basketball Museum, offers approximately 10,000 square feet of exhibit, retail and office space.

"We are excited to announce that the internationally acclaimed traveling exhibition, Bodies Revealed, will launch the new Lexington Center Museum & Gallery space on September 10th and run for four months. This exhibition will be the first of an ongoing series of educational, art and cultural touring exhibits that we plan to attract to this new exhibition space. We believe Lexington's diverse and educated population is ideal for high quality exhibits like this and will be a great draw for local residents and regional visitors as well as conventioneers," Owen said.

Bodies Revealed exposes the secrets of the human body in unprecedented detail normally reserved for medical professionals. Visitors of all ages can look deep inside the carefully preserved specimens, learn about human anatomy and see the effects that disease and unhealthy lifestyles have on the body. The Exhibition, presented by Premier Exhibitions, the Atlanta-based provider of major museum quality touring exhibitions including Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition and Dialog in the Dark, will be on display at the Lexington Center Museum & Gallery through December 2011.

Bodies Revealed, located inside the 10,000 square-foot Lexington Center Museum & Gallery, takes visitors through a series of galleries providing an up-close look inside the skeletal, muscular, reproductive, respiratory, circulatory and other systems of the human body. Many of the full-body specimens are dissected in vivid athletic poses, allowing visitors to relate to everyday activities. In addition, a multitude of organs are displayed to illustrate the damage that can result from over-eating, lack of exercise and smoking, and provides comparisons more powerful than any textbook could illustrate.

"Bodies Revealed will provide visitors with an up-close and revealing look at just how magnificent, intricate and fragile the human body truly is," says Bill Owen. He further notes, "Bodies Revealed offers a highly unique and educational experience for students, families, educators and medical professionals seeking a new and fascinating look into the human machine."

"Bringing this exhibit to Lexington provides a great educational opportunity for community members to see a remarkable exhibit that offers a unique view of the human anatomy," said Dr. Michael Karpf, University of Kentucky executive vice president for health affairs. "It is a fascinating exhibit that pays tribute to both the beauty and science of the human body."

"We are thrilled to have the opportunity to bring Bodies Revealed to Kentucky and open the new exhibition space at The Lexington Center Museum & Gallery," states Katherine Seymour, Vice President of Communications for Premier Exhibition's Inc. "This exhibition is a truly entertaining blend of art, education, science and health that will leave you inspired to take better care of you!"

The human body specimens in the exhibition are preserved through a revolutionary technique called polymer preservation. In this process, human tissue is permanently preserved using liquid silicone rubber that is treated and hardened. The end result is a rubberized specimen, preserved to the cellular level, showcasing the complexity of the body's many bones, muscles, nerves, blood vessels and organs. The full-body specimens can take more than a year to prepare.

Bodies Revealed is currently receiving worldwide acclaim, attracting millions of visitors from the UK to Brazil. This will be the first time the exhibition has been presented in Kentucky. A Free Educator Preview has been scheduled for September 8 from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. The exhibition will be at the Lexington Center Museum & Gallery from September 10 through December 2011. Exhibit hours are Friday – Sunday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Groups of 10+ can be arranged by appointment, contact Group Sales Manager Jana Curd (859) 233-4567 ext. 3292.

Tickets to the Bodies Revealed are $14 for adults 19 and older, $11 for children ages 4 – 18, and children 3 and under are free. Tickets will go on sale soon and can be purchased at the Lexington Center Museum & Gallery's admissions desk and in advance at the Lexington Center Ticket Office (859) 233-3535, Ticketmaster.com and all Ticketmaster Outlets.
